CONCEPT HOME 2030 COMPETITION

Malaysia

Our submission scheme, entitled “MULTIPLICITY”, is one part inspiration from Le Corbusier’s design philosophy of “Living Machine” that “A house is a machine for living in”/ “Une madison est Une machine-a-habiter”, and especially Peter Cooks’ / Archigram’s “The Plug-In City”. The other part an awareness of post pandemic living: a realization of how essential it is for individuals to have their own spaces as well as the utmost importance of community and neighbourhood integration and support.

The modular “MULTIPLICITY” allows the city / masterplan to multiply accordingly to become a one-of-its-kind development in Malaysia and the region. On the other hand, the terrace house units are simply an empty shell with ready wind turbines that allows the owners to add or “plug in” the standard living containers or prefab cabins as necessary. This is much more practical and especially economical to suit different spatial needs and budgetary concerns. Each living container or prefab cabin is connected to the renewable energy generator and consumption system.

As Energy is the future Currency of global economics, our masterplan proposal highlights its importance while enforcing a healthier lifestyle. Four neighbourhoods share a Central Park that is anchored by an “Energy Egg / Hub” surrounded by Commercial, Vertical Farms, Recreational & Exercise Paths, Tram System, and extensive landscape spaces. Each family must contribute to a certain wattage of energy per week via exercise (walking/ running/ cycling/ rowing). All the collected energy at the Central Energy Egg / Hub will be distributed back to the community. In addition, solar energy as well as wind energy will also be harnessed via solar panels and wind turbines, respectively.
